EDC (Everyday Carry), it’s a routine that we all do every day. Your wallet, keys, cell phone, and anything else that you carry on your body or in the clothes you wear every day, is Everyday Carry (EDC).

I have written another article on basic EDC called THE ULTIMATE EDC ESSENTIALS LIST.

In that article you will learn about what you should (or could) be carrying every single day, depending on where you live and what you do, to be as prepared as possible and have a smooth sailing day.

I also share with you what I carry for my EDC.

Today we’re going to dive into another consideration when it comes to basic preparedness; Vehicle EDC.

What do you carry in your vehicle every single day?

Do you know where your spare tire is? Do you even know if you have a spare tire? If you do, is it inflated to the proper PSI? Do you know where the factory standard tools are to change a tire on your vehicle?

If your answer to any of these questions is “NO”, you’re in the right place, read on!

If you did answer “NO” to any of these questions, there are probably a lot more things you’re missing that could put you in a real bad spot one day.

So, we need to look into this a little deeper and understand the importance of having what you need and when you need it if you happen to get stranded on the side of the road or have an accident that renders your vehicle inoperable.

The scenarios are many but the answers can be few, if you will just take a little time to come up with a list of items that you should have in your vehicle every day.

Let’s take a look at some things to consider in our daily commute or out over the road.

What Are the Best EDC Tools to Keep in Your Car?

Here lies an “it depends”. There are going to be some universal basics that just about everyone should be hauling. However, there are some factors that will play a key role in determining what EDC you keep on hand in your vehicle.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Where you live will play a pretty big role in deciding what you keep in your vehicle. When we start to get nuanced in our selections, we have to consider a few things.

Vehicle EDC Essentials List | EDC for Car | EDC for Vehicle | EDC for Truck | Vehicle EDC | Glove Box EDC | Vehicle Preparedness Kit | Car Preparedness Kit | EDC for Travel | Vehicle Prepper | Prepper Vehicle

For instance, right now where I live we are chest deep into fire season. I could walk outside and stare at the grass and start a fire if I focused hard enough! Well, not really, but you get the point.

The last thing I need right now is a full-blown fire kit (I ALWAYS carry a good fire kit). All I need is one decent stroke of the ferro rod on a patch of grass and fire, I will have. That would also be a TERRIBLE decision that I would never think of doing.

If you live in Northern Alaska, you should probably always have the means to stay warm and dry. Like a good sleeping bag, some extra warm clothes, and definitely a FIRE KIT!

The point is, where you live and the elements and challenges that area presents are going to determine a lot of the nuanced EDC items that you decide to keep in your vehicle. Of course, adjust with the seasons in your area.

HOW FAR DO YOU TRAVEL DAILY?

Your commute should also play a determining roll in your Vehicle EDC. If you commute long distances for long hours, your nuanced EDC is going to be a little different than someone who works 5 minutes from their home.

You also want to pay attention to the areas in which you travel. If they are high crime or prone to violence, it would be a good idea to haul some self-defense items, in one form or another.

DO YOU HAVE RELIABLE CELL SERVICE WHERE YOU LIVE?

If the answer to this question is “NO”, then you would be wise to look into alternative forms of communication so that you’re not just left hanging out to dry.

A satellite phone or at least a regular personal locator beacon would be some solid solutions to put your mind, and the minds of those who love you, at ease.

If not, it may be a good idea to at least have a plan so that if you’re not where you should be after a certain hour that someone will come to look for you. Common sense plays a pretty big role here.

WHAT TYPE OF VEHICLE DO YOU HAVE?

The size and type of vehicle you drive every day is going to determine how much you can haul. Learning to be smart about space and organization will do you well in being able to carry more preps without overwhelming yourself or never knowing where anything is.

If you have a large truck with a dual cab and a toolbox, your EDC options are far greater than if you drive a small compact car. However, you can still have everything you need in a small car, you just have to be very organized and smart with the items that you prioritize.

It is quite possible that something you would choose to have in your vehicle EDC is not on our list today, so keep an open mind and have fun designing your very own custom Vehicle EDC Essentials List!

Let’s hit the road! PREPARED!!

This one seems like a no-brainer, but it’s surprising how many people never consider having a little fire extinguisher in their vehicle.

It’s also something that doesn’t happen every day, so it makes sense that it gets left out of the equation a lot.

First of all, if your car is on fire you’re gonna have to think quick and decide if it is something that is very quickly and easily put out or if it’s too much to tangle with.

If you even think it’s too much to tangle with, just call it a loss and get out of dodge! If you’re driving a gasoline powered vehicle, it has the ability to explode easier than if you’re in a diesel fueled vehicle.

Either way, be smart, but this thing could save your ride, especially if you only carry liability insurance.

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • Durable metal head designed to meet demanding needs.

  • Corrosion resistant metal gauge easy-to-read color coded gauge provides accurate measurement.

  • Metal pull pin with safety seal to help prevent accidental discharge and discourage tampering.

  • Secure extinguisher mount, bracket and strap are included for secure placement of extinguisher.

  • Easy instructions with a chemical resistant & water proof label with 4-step instructions wont deteriorate.

  • First Alert has been the most trusted brand in home safety since launching the first residential smoke alarm in 1958 (Based on a First Alert Brand Trust Survey in February 2018)

  • Oem Equivalent Part Number: First Alert Fesa5

  • Fit Type: Universal

No-Spill 1405 2-1/2-Gallon Poly Gas Can

I can count about 5 occasions that I have ran out of gas on the highway, and usually late at night with someone else behind the wheel.

I’m just geared to check gauges quite regularly, so this never happens to me when driving, but a lot of people just aren’t geared that way.

With this in mind, it’s a good idea to keep a can of extra fuel in your vehicle. It could be the only thing that gets you down the road in the middle of the night when otherwise you’d be walking.

A couple of gallons should get you 20 miles or so for even some of the most gas guzzling vehicles.

Of course, if you have a diesel, it wouldn’t do you much good to haul gas.

I carry this knife when traveling and in unfamiliar territory or while in the great outdoors. There’s such peace of mind in carrying this amazing tool and here’s why.

A favorite among first responders, where speed and safety are of the utmost importance, the Triage family from Benchmade are perhaps our favorite EDC knives on the planet here at Rugged Man.

The Benchmade Triage 916 is Triage Auto 9170 BK packaged in high-strength aluminum with the speed and efficiency of AXIS auto and an automatic opening hook.

It sports a N680 stainless modified drop point blade, black anodized aluminum handle with black G10 inlays, and a carbide glass breaker tip. The hook-shaped safety cutter features 440C stainless steel and an automatic opening as well as a slide release/lock.

These knives have some of the most storied reviews out there, with active overseas deployed military, law enforcement, EMT’s, fire fighters, and first responders of all kinds. Not to mention a favorite of rugged outdoorsmen and preppers/survivalists of all walks of life.

  • Blade Length - 3.58”

  • Overall Lenth - 8.31”

  • Weight - 5.75 oz

THE ULTIMATE EDC ESSENTIALS LIST FOR 2021

THE TOP 7 EDC (EVERYDAY CARRY) KNIVES OF 2021

On the road, I like to have a real set of tools with me that can do just about anything I need for my vehicle. However, it’s good to have a good multi-tool.

A multi-tool is not really designed to work on your vehicle (although it could in a pinch for certain things). Primarily, the multi-tool is going to come in handy when you’re tending to the survival part of breaking down and getting stranded, like if you have to leave your vehicle to make shelter and prepare meals, etc.

And when it comes to mid-price range multi-tools, an international best-seller, the Leatherman Wave Plus has all the essential tools that you’re probably going to need for those purposes.

All 18 tools can be opened and locked quickly, conveniently to tackle any task.

Many of these tools are outside-accessible, so you can use them when the multi-tool is folded and closed.

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • Packs a quiver of 18 tools, including pliers, replaceable wire cutters, wire stripper, knives, saw, spring-action scissors, ruler, can & bottle openers, files and screwdrivers

  • Weight ‎11.2 ounces

  • Dimensions ‎2 x 2 x 2 inches

  • Stainless Steel

  • Lifetime Leatherman Warranty

THE ULTIMATE EDC ESSENTIALS LIST FOR 2021

If you live where we do, then you’re probably already familiar with this item. Good for defense against bears and potentially other predators, Frontiersman Bear Spray is a trusted brand that we have used for years.

Turns out, it also works on two legged creatures that try to hurt you and take your stuff. So, it goes without saying, there is more value to this potent can than may meet the eyes.

If you happen to live in an area that does not have bears or bear spray, then a small investment in some good old fashioned pepper spray isn’t a bad idea.

Please be aware of what direction the wind is blowing when using either of these. You wouldn’t want to render yourself useless while your space is being violated.

Also, bear spray in large doses can kill a grown man. So if you want to retain your already dwindling freedom, deter in smallish doses. Shouldn’t take much.

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • Contains 2.0% CRC which is the maximum allowed by the EPA.

  • Field tested and proven effective by the Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska and Brown Bear Resources in Montana.

  • Highly effective in extreme temperatures and will not freeze.

  • It's glow-in-the-dark safety mechanism allows outdoorsmen to locate canister even in the dark.

  • Special tie attachment prevents misplacement of safety mechanism.

Having a good quality hatchet or axe is bushcraft and survival 101.

The uses of this amazing tool are quite numerous and of course it can be used in self defense if needed. Chopping wood, making tender and kindling, and shelter building are just a few chores this little beast can knock out.

I personally carry a small and a mid-sized hatchet, and a large axe. However, I have a big truck.

If you’re in a car or a smaller vehicle, then space is going to be an issue and the Husqvarna 13” Hatchet is the piece for you.

It is moderately priced and the quality is good. Husqvarna usually produces high quality and affordable gear and it’s hard to go wrong with this company on just about anything they make.

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • Premium 1.32 lbs. hand-forged axe head

  • Made with hickory and Swedish steel

  • Comes with a leather edge cover

  • Made in Sweden

Again, thinking about space here, you can’t go wrong with the Silky Pocketboy Folding Saw.

It is compact, durable, and retains it’s sharp edge for very long periods of time. In 3 years, I haven’t even thought about changing out the blade on this thing.

The Silky Pocketboy is a compact folding saw that will take up very little room in a backpack or glove box, and can even fit in your pocket.

It features a rust-resistant, hard chrome-plated, taper-ground blade with an impulse-hardened non-set tooth design for greater cutting efficiency.

The blade locks securely into one of two open positions, in line with the handle and flush cutting.

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • 130mm: 5 inch blade (medium teeth)

  • 170mm: 6-3/4 inch blade (large teeth)

  • Comes with a clear plastic flip-lock carrying case with belt clip

The RedCamp Folding Camp Shovel is a valuable tool with many uses. It will dig, saw, cut, hammer, and of course, shovel.

It can be used either straight or at a 90°angle as a shovel, hoe, pick or saw.

Having some sort of shovel in your vehicle, whether it be full size or small, is a must have.

It’s one of those things that you may never have to use, but the one time it gets you out of a pinch is worth the space it has been taking up.

If you’re stuck in the snow, you may be able to dig yourself out. If you’re stuck in the mud, you may be able to dig yourself out. And, depending on how far out you are and whether or not you have cell service, this could be a game changer.

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • Foldable with a carrying pouch

  • Head size is 8.2"/21cm

  • Total length 22.8"/58cm

  • Weighs 2.5lbs/1.15kg

  • Blade thickness 1.5mm

  • High-Carbon Steel

MAKE OR BUY A GOOD FIRE STARTER KIT

Vehicle EDC Essentials List | EDC for Car | EDC for Vehicle | EDC for Truck | Vehicle EDC | Glove Box EDC | Vehicle Preparedness Kit | Car Preparedness Kit | EDC for Travel | Vehicle Prepper | Prepper Vehicle

You may never use it. Or, perhaps, it’ll come in handy if you happen to spontaneously decide to set up camp somewhere.

Your fire kit will be right there and ready to go to get a fire started when you want it or if you need it.

Today, however, we are discussing preparedness. Having a good fire kit to get you through a cold night or three could be what saves you if you were to get stranded or slide off the road in snowy or icy conditions and had to leave the shelter of your vehicle.

Here’s what to look for.

Zippo All-In-One Kit

Zippo's All-in-one kit has all the essentials needed to last you a while if you’re not using it every day. This kit includes a Zippo Street Chrome lighter, flint dispenser (6 flints), and a 4 ounce can of Zippo lighter fluid.

I am a fan and participant when it comes to the bushcraft ways of starting fire. But, in this article, we’re considering emergency roadside situations and the possibility that you may have your family with you and need not waste time on novelty. Having a lighter, especially a Zippo, is just about the best thing you can have next to a blow torch to get a fire going fast and easy for you and yours in a desperate situation.

And, as always, I like to carry a couple of Bic lighters. They last a very long time and there trustworthy on the fly.

Combine the Black Beard Captain's Loot Fire Starter Kit with a Zippo and couple of Bics for backup, and you’d better get a fire started or go hide under a rock.

I know it’s tough and sometimes seems impossible to get a fire going when it’s rainy and wet.

But, if you’re hauling the things we’re going over today, you should have everything you need to shave of some fresh inner wood, use a tarp or two to keep everything dry, get your shelter in place, and get a fire going.

Of course, if you’re using your car for shelter, please do not start a fire there.

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • 1 Black Beard Ferro Rod

  • 3 Black Beard Fire Starters

  • 1 Black Beard Velcro Patch

  • 1 Fire Kit Organizer.

  • The Fire Kit Organizer interior includes two slip pockets, 12 elastic organizers and swivel clip.

  • The exterior includes a slip pocket with Velcro closure, a molle panel and carrying handle.

  • With plenty of extra space, feel free to add whatever you would like to the kit.

  • Hand crafted, a fully dried material that is waterproof, windproof, and convenient in size and weight!

  • No expiration date opened or unopened.

  • Will never evaporate, deteriorate or dissipate and is designed to light up every time.

  • Fully dried and braided cotton rope infused with special blend of odorless, non toxic waxes and oils. This treatment process allows the product to be completely safe to handle while being an extremely efficient and simple fire starting aid.

  • Ferro Rod: Length 5” & Diameter 1/2". EXTRA LARGE. Super thick 1/2” in diameter throws a MASSIVE shower of hot sparks to light fire instantly in any conditions. Windproof & weather resistant. Over 7 feet of paracord Provides up to 5000 degree sparks in all weather, at any altitude. Extremely durable and reliable.

A BUG OUT BAG COVERS A LOT OF BASES

Having a 72 hour Bug-Out-Bag will cover a lot of ground when considering what you will want to have for EDC in your vehicle. If you have a 72 hour B.O.B. sitting in the trunk of your car, a lot of bases are getting covered here.

Not sure how to build a Bug Out Bag or what to put in it? Check this out…

BUG OUT BAG ESSENTIALS LIST: A 72-HOUR EMERGENCY KIT

Outdoor 3 Day Expandable 40-64L Backpack

The Outdoor 3 Day Expandable Backpack is a perfect Bug Out Bag. You can’t beat the price and it looks like an ordinary everyday backpack, which is good.

I love my Teton 4000 Hiking Backpack, but it may just be revealing a little too much. Ideally, you don’t want to give off the impression that you’re packing the goods if there is any scarcity in the air.

So if you are bugging out to a rural or remote area and you have access to a vehicle, then being Mr. Obvious MIGHT be ok. However, if you are on foot and moving through an urban or suburban area where people are running around like a bunch of opportunistic lunatics, the Outdoor 3 Day Expandable is what we’re looking for. Be the grayman.

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • Expandable capacity of 40 to 64 liters

  • 3-liter bladder hydration compartment (bladder not included)

  • Removable waist belt

  • Reversible zippers to keep out the dust and dirt

  • Weighs only 3.6 pounds

  • Mesh pocket for a water bottle

  • 2 electronics pockets

  • A daisy chain

LET THERE BE LIGHT

Vehicle EDC Essentials List | EDC for Car | EDC for Vehicle | EDC for Truck | Vehicle EDC | Glove Box EDC | Vehicle Preparedness Kit | Car Preparedness Kit | EDC for Travel | Vehicle Prepper | Prepper Vehicle

Kind of a no-brainer here. If you’re stranded, and that lasts into the night and you have no ability to light your way, you’re probably not going to get anything done to make your situation any better.

You may even make it worse by tripping over something and hurting yourself because you couldn’t see. Here are a few simple solutions.

Olight Baton 3 Premium Edition

This company simply makes excellent EDC flashlights.

What will stand out to you about the OLIGHT BATON 3 is the incredible capability while being so small in size!

At just under 2.5” and a weight of 1.87oz this is easily one of the most noninvasive EDC flashlights you could own.

Despite the immense difference in size, OLIGHT has made sure the BATON 3 PREMIUM EDITION sacrifices nothing in performance. This little bundle of dynamite produces up to 1,200 lumens and has a beam throw just over 180 yards!

The performance for size factor alone is enough to make this EDC flashlight a finalist on your list, but my favorite feature is the versatile settings!

Boasting six different modes including strobe, the OLIGHT BATON 3 can operate at 1,200 lumens for up to 75 minutes or be adjusted all the way down to half a lumen for 20 days!

This kind of range of performance in such a small tool is one of the reasons OLIGHT is so well respected in the EDC flashlight community.

Just like our previous OLIGHT entry, the BATON 3 is constructed of IPX8 aluminum, drop tested at 1.5 meters, and submerged in 2 meters of water to ensure waterproofing.

This is one of my favorites on the list!

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • 2.48” in length

  • 1.87oz in weight

  • 0.5-1,200 lumens (20 days of runtime to 75min)

  • Clip point

  • Rechargeable (battery and wireless charges included)

  • IPX8 aluminum alloy

  • Waterproof (tested at 2 meters)

Having a hand cranked radio means that you have one of the last means to tune in and try to make sense of a bad situation. If your car battery is completely dead and you don’t have a charger, you can still tune in.

A lot of modern systems could go down and you still may be able to utilize AM/FM radio and NOAA to get information and make important decisions.

This trusty sidekick also features a 1000 mAh battery for charging your phone.

It also has a bright and long lasting LED flashlight to add another light source.

Not to mention, one that requires no power except for the cranking motion of your hand. As long as you can give this one a few cranks every now and then, you have light.

SHELTER, WARM & DRY

Having warm and dry shelter is paramount, especially when it is cold outside.

Even when the weather is not only warm, but HOT, you can still begin to go hypothermic if a rain comes through, soaks you thoroughly, and then moves out followed by a breeze and a even slightly cooler temperatures.

Here are some items that can help make the difference between whether you make it out of a tough situation or not.

These items, in one way or another, provide a barrier between you and the elements.

Marmot Trestles 0° Long Sleeping Bag

If you live in a region that is cold or can get cold for certain times of the year, this can be an important item to have rolled up in the trunk or in the back seat of your vehicle.

A good quality, low temperature rated sleeping bag, like the Trestles 0° Long Sleeping Bag, can allow you to use your vehicle as a shelter and stay warm.

Your comfort level may not be optimal trying to sleep in your vehicle, but you’ll stay toasty.

Reliably warm in almost any circumstances, the Trestles 0° Long Sleeping Bag from Marmot boasts incredible design and technology to keep you thriving in adverse situations.

If you prepare for the possibility that you may not be able to sleep in your car, that probably means that you will be sleeping on the ground somewhere, unless you have hammock (which is a good idea and a space saver).

In the case that you have to sleep on the ground, a good insulated sleeping pad is more important than the quality of sleeping bag you choose.

The ground conducts heat from our bodies and over the course of a night can send us hypothermic. A high quality sleeping pad like the Big Agnes Insulated Q-Core SLX Sleep Pad is a very big deal.

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • Main Material: Durable, superlight double rip-stop nylon with Aviation-grade TPU lamination that provides ultimate weld strength and dependability

  • Weight: 17oz (482g), 24oz (680g), 36oz (1.02kg)

  • Rolled Size: 4" x 7" (10 x 18cm), 4" x 8.5" (10 x 22cm), 5.5" x 11" (14 x 28cm)

Again, sleeping in your car, for many potential reasons, may not be an option and in some cases may be dangerous. Having the ability to throw up a quick shelter to keep the weather off is not a bad thing to consider.

I thoroughly enjoy shelter building, but would not have the time if I am stuck out somewhere with my family and need to provide shelter quickly.

The Aqua Quest Safari Tarp is certainly a solid answer to this problem.

However, it has a price tag of over $100 and a decent quality tent may be a better fit for you depending on how much space in your vehicle you would like to devote to shelter.

Something to think about, if you have any knowledge of basic knots and have some paracord, you may be able to get by with a good quality tarp. Shelter doesn’t get much cheaper than that.

Water and warm/dry shelter against whatever environment you’re facing are the first priorities. After that, we want to get some some nutrition.

We can make it a few weeks without food, but after prolonged periods, what condition will your mind and body be in?

Lack of proper nutrition is going to affect our ability to make good decisions and dampen your morale. You don’t have to have a lot in this department for a normal breakdown or stranded situation. Ideally, you’ll be out of the struggle with help on the way, pronto.

However, we will list out a little more than necessary here to display your options and cater to your individual environment and situation.

Jetboil Zip Cooking System

A hot meal doesn't have to be far away or difficult and time consuming to prepare.

The Jetboil Zip can provide hot food and drinks quickly and conveniently when you need them the most.

Distilled from the flagship Jetboil PCS design, the Jetboil Zip provides the essential function but in a sleeker, lighter design.

As we said before, keeping proper nutrition and morale is essential. Below is a list of food items to consider. Some are ideal for a portable cook stove and some require no preparation at all, which may be ideal for you.

Not all of these items would suffice for a good daily diet, but we’re talking about being in a pinch here.

I think at this point you get the picture. No need to go overboard and there’s a good chance that we did not include something that you would cherish in a tough situation. Your food preps on the road are to be custom designed for you and yours. We just wanted to give you a little boost in the right direction.

FIRST AID & EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Having the ability to take action when someone is injured should just be automatic for anyone, anywhere, and especially on the road in an emergency.

Being able to stop yourself or a loved one from bleeding out, or just making sure that you treat wounds accordingly can mean the difference between a somewhat routine situation or an incredibly bad one.

Vehicle EDC Essentials List | EDC for Car | EDC for Vehicle | EDC for Truck | Vehicle EDC | Glove Box EDC | Vehicle Preparedness Kit | Car Preparedness Kit | EDC for Travel | Vehicle Prepper | Prepper Vehicle

Below, there are two first aid kits. The first one is an amazing kit that is good for just about any occasion if you have the space. However, it has a pretty hefty price tag. The second one is FAR less expensive and is supposedly custom made for being out on the road.

If you really want to dig deep and find a kit that is right for you and yours, head on over to mymedic.com and they’ll keep you busy for a while with an impressive variety of top tier professional first aid kits.

The Medic

Hand picked by first responders and medical professionals, The Medic is a first aid kit that could actually save your life in some pretty traumatic circumstances.

Made of durable materials made to rugged military standards and equipped with MOLLE loops allow for modular add-ons, this is the cream of the crop of first aid kits.

As I said before, it’s got one heck of a price tag, but dang if it ain’t got just about everything in it, with over 550 quality first-aid and trauma supplies.

The Medic is also HSA/FSA approved.

Now, here is the FAR more affordable option that claims to be made for the road.

The Auto Medic is the go-to kit for common injuries and ailments to treat yourself, your family, or others in need while on the road.

It has mesh pockets to find items quickly and has easily identifiable, color coded patches.

Also included are a seat belt cutter, a window breaker, and a tourniquet to stop major bleeding.

HYGIENE

Maintaining good hygiene is essential to everyday living. Even if you spend long periods of time in the great outdoors, keeping yourself clean and tending to dental health not only keeps your mind and body healthy, but it makes you feel better.

This is not complicated and we’re not going to make it so. If you’re following any direction from this article, you’ve already taken up a decent amount of space in your vehicle to keep it properly prepared for an emergency. So we’re going to keep this very basic.

Convenience Kits International Men’s Premium 15 Piece Assembled Travel Kit

If you’re looking to spend around $10 on more than what you need and you don’t care whether or not you’re using natural products, this kit is just for you.

Again, it’s got well over what you need and it comes with it’s own travel bag.

I personally like to use more natural products, but no judgements being passed here.

If this one works for you, you’re probably not going to find a better deal.

KIT CONTAINS:

  • Pert Plus 2in1 Shampoo+Conditioner 1.7 oz.

  • Walters Palm Scalp Brush

  • Black Comb

  • Gillette Good News Disposable Razor

  • Fresh Scent Shave Gel .85 oz

  • Tissue Pack 15 ct.

  • Degree for Men A/P Deodorant .5 oz

  • Dude Wipes

  • Swago Cologne for Men Wipe

  • Crest Toothpaste .85 oz.

  • Toothbrush

  • Toothbrush Cover

  • Dentek Flossers (3 ct.)

  • TSA Compliant Quart Size Zip Top Bag

Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Liquid Soap would be my choice to have along and it will cover most of my needs.

You can actually brush your teeth with it. Not that tasty, but safe and effective.

It’s completely natural, and is also absolutely safe to let drip out onto the ground or in a stream in moderation, without damaging the great outdoors that we enjoy so much.

You can use it to wash camp dishes, clothes, and clean wounds. Not to mention it’s a huge bottle and if you only keep it for your vehicle, it will last a very long time. It’s concentrated, so a little bit of this stuff goes a long way.

So, throw a rag, towel, toothbrush and toothpaste in a little baggy and you’re set. Way more cost efficient than any other option I know of.

COMMUNICATIONS

This is a pretty big one that get’s overlooked by a lot of folks, partly because we are so reliant upon our cell phones and most people live in places that have uninterrupted cell service where they never experience what it’s like to not be able to communicate.

Vehicle EDC Essentials List | EDC for Car | EDC for Vehicle | EDC for Truck | Vehicle EDC | Glove Box EDC | Vehicle Preparedness Kit | Car Preparedness Kit | EDC for Travel | Vehicle Prepper | Prepper Vehicle

This is a dangerous placement of all of your eggs in one basket. If you lose that service, then what? Also, you may be on a wilderness vacation and not have service for extended periods of time. So what would you do if you had a breakdown?

I live in a designated wilderness area and these are things I contemplate on a daily basis. So below, we’re going to take a look at a few items that can allow you to communicate for help if you find yourself stranded without cell service.

Garmin inReach Explorer+

The Garmin InReach Explorer+ is a handheld satellite communicator with GPS navigation, maps, and offers an extra special feature for the ultimate adventurers who want to push their limits while also having the ability to call on help when they need it. Your InReach Explorer+ is also a supported device for the Lockheed Martin Flight Services (LMFS) Adverse Condition Alerting Service (ACAS), Surveillance-Enhanced Search and Rescue (SE-SAR) and Enhanced Special Reporting Services (eSRS).

I know this may seem a little over the top, but installing a CB radio has come in handy for me more times than a few just in everyday life.

Keeping you car ready and equipped with as many means of communication as possible can only be to your advantage. It is all a part of getting home safely and if you find yourself in a situation where you have to use it, you’ll be glad that you have it.

If you’re simply in a traffic jam, having spent 15 minutes reading the manual and learning how a CB radio works out on the highway, you can found out what’s going on from truckers all around you who are sitting up way higher than everyone else and can see what’s going on. This is great for even when there isn’t a catastrophe or emergency situation.

Also, just being able to listen in to certain channels if the weather is turning and you want to hear what folks on the highway are talking about can be a great source of information.

It’s not that difficult to transform you’re vehicle into a CB radio having machine. Now you just have to enjoy coming up with your radio handle!

Even if you’re not able to use your vehicle to get home safely, you can attempt to communicate using your CB radio if you set out on foot. This may enable you to get help faster, learn what and where to avoid on your journey, or maybe even save you from having to walk at all if you can get help to come to you!

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • iRADAR APP - Receive and report live police alerts including speed traps, road hazards and red-light cameras based on the nearly 1 million iRadar users out on the road today.

  • BLUETOOTH - Legally use your smartphone to answer, place and terminate phone calls at the touch of a button while staying focused on the road. With a noise cancelling microphone, you can have quality conversations over the noise of the engine.

  • REWIND-SAY-AGAIN– Replay the last 10 seconds of a missed message that is automatically recorded with a digital voice recorder so you never have to miss valuable information and you can also record a 10 second memo to replay at anytime.

  • NOAA WEATHER CHANNELS - Be the first to know of incoming hazards or changing weather with instant access to NOAA weather channels 24 hours a day and an audible tone warning from the station.

  • NIGHTWATCH - Fully illuminated customizable LCD colored display in blue, red, green and amber for easy viewing in day or nighttime conditions so you can stay focused on the road without distracting bright lights.

A couple of GXT1000VP4 GMRS walkie talkies can be a great way to communicate of one person decides to take out on foot to find help.

Keep in mind, if you make a decision to leave for help, do so very wisely and with great caution.

Many people have made this decision and never came back because they were unprepared for the elements or got lost.

Sometimes it’s a better idea to stay put and if you practice the things advised in this article, you should be able to stay put quite comfortably for a few days.

Even if you have decided to leave the vehicle close by and make a base camp, walkie talkies can help you stay in touch with those at camp while you’re getting water or firewood, perhaps.

They also allow you to scroll channels and see if there is anyone close by on the same channel that will send help for you.

One of my favorite features of the GXT1000VP4 GMRS is the NOAA Weather Scan + Alert Technology, this radio will auto scan to alert you of severe weather updates!

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • Pair of Radios

  • Belt Clips

  • Rechargeable Battery Packs

  • Desktop Charger

  • AC Wall Adapter

  • DC Adapter

  • Pair of Boom Mic Headsets

  • 142 Privacy Codes

The Rite in the Rain series of various sized notebooks, pens, and pencils are a wonderful invention.

Having the ability to take down important information in the rain or leave a note for someone that will not get destroyed if it gets wet could end up being priceless.

One suggestion, I have found that the Rite in the Rain Weatherproof Mechanical Pencil is much more effective in wet conditions.

FEATURES & SPECS:

  • Incredibly tough Tan CORDURA fabric Cover that holds 4 writing instruments with rugged zipper.

  • Green 4 5/8" x 7" Side Spiral Notebook with a tough Wire-O binding that won’t get bent out of shape when packed in a pack or pants pocket.

  • All-Weather Metal Black Pen that writes through water, sweat, grease, mud, and more.

Vehicle EDC Essentials List | EDC for Car | EDC for Vehicle | EDC for Truck | Vehicle EDC | Glove Box EDC | Vehicle Preparedness Kit | Car Preparedness Kit | EDC for Travel | Vehicle Prepper | Prepper Vehicle

As somewhat mentioned, there may be things on our list today that you feel are completely unnecessary. There may also be a few things that weren’t on our list that you feel you need to have. That’s why it is best for you to put together your own Vehicle EDC Essentials List.

Remember, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to keep yourself prepared on the road. Even if you make some quality purchases, you don’t have to have them all at once.

Build your preps up over time and set yourself up for success in the face of adversity. When it comes, be ready, and feel the satisfaction of what it is like to have answers to most of the problems the road can throw at you.

Some things are out of our control and some are within it. It’s a powerful thing to recognize the difference.

Safe travels!
