Water is the most important part of human survival. Aside from the air we breathe, nothing should top ensuring that we have water when it comes to emergency preparedness.

Most of us are very aware of this, yet we treat it as if it is of little to no importance. Why?

In the U.S., as well as other “advanced” countries, we have grown accustomed for many decades to turning a knob on a faucet and having all the water we want just pour right out and down the drain, sending it back to a facility to be processed and purified all over again.

Not to mention that this water is not good for consumption, due to fluoride and whatever other chemicals they put in it to make it so it does not kill us.

What if we turn that knob one day and nothing comes out? What if this lasts considerably longer than we have ever experienced before?

This may sound far-fetched, but how many things these days are a reality that seemed far-fetched just even a year ago?

Look around your home. How much water do you have? Can your family survive if water is not running the lines for a week? Because you know it will be chaos out there if this were to really happen without warning.

What happens when EVERYBODY ELSE is scrapping to find water that they didn’t prepare to not have?

The truth is, most people have about a case of water or less sitting in the hallway or the garage and that’s it! That’s about 3 gallons and if you have a family, you don’t have much time. Don’t do this.

Without water we can only survive for a few days, roughly, and you can bet those last couple of days will very difficult as our bodies begin to shut down.

It should go without saying that we cannot, as men, allow for this to happen to ourselves and our loved ones without doing everything in our power to prepare for such events.

Today we are going to take a look at a few of many very simple methods and practices that will help to ensure that our families have good quality drinking water for extended periods of time if such events were to occur.

What is the Best Way to Store Emergency Water?

Storing Water for Emergencies | Emergency Water Storage | How to Store Water for Emergencies | Long Term Water Storage | Long Term Water Storage Containers | How to Store Safe Drinking Water | Water Storage Methods at Home | Water Outage Emergency Pl

Storing water safely and properly is very simple, yet it is important to consider a few things.

Never store your water around chemicals, period. Even sturdy containers, over time and depending on exposure, can experience leakage/seepage contamination due to chemical exposure.

Making sure you have your water in rotation so that it never exceeds 6 months in age is another important consideration.

It may be safe to drink at this point, but it will taste flat or “dead” and will lose some mineral content important for our bodies to thrive these days, given there is decent mineral content in the water that we choose in the first place.

Try to keep your water out of direct sunlight and stored in mild conditions. If you had to keep your water in any adverse conditions, cold would be the better option. If it is below freezing, leave a little room for freezing and expansion to avoid compromising the integrity of your containers.

How Much Water Should You Store for Emergencies?

At a bare minimum, store enough water for one gallon a day, per person and at at least a one month supply. This is not difficult or very expensive as we will get into throughout this article.

Again, water should take priority over everything else. Without water, other provisions cannot be utilized as we will not survive long enough to utilize them. Water, for our bodies is like oil for an engine.

Should Water Be Rationed for an Emergency?

This is why we prepare NOW! Rationing water is not what you want to have to be doing. We can ration food and other things and get by for a while, but water is the life of us and we will not make it very long without sufficient amounts.

Storing foods with a low sodium content will help us to not become as thirsty, but thirst alone should not dictate how much water we choose to consume on a daily basis.

However, again, never let yourself or your family get into this situation.

PREPARE! It is way too easy and far too important not to!

What is Tap Water Good For?

It is ill-advised to drink tap water on a regular basis. Despite whatever entity tells you about fluoride in the water being “good for your teeth”, which is absurd, there are other things present in tap water that make it damaging to consume on a regular basis for any period of time.

However, it certainly has it’s usefulness. Again, aside from drinking it, tap water should be saved at every chance you get.

Most of us can probably run over to our taps, right now, and turn a knob and have water come out. This means that you can start storing tap water for flushing toilets and bathing/sanitary purposes immediately.

We underestimate the amount of water we go through daily and there is nothing like having it taken away to show us just how much of it we rely on.

Tap water can be drank in emergency situations, of course, but again, it is perfect to start putting it back to keep our toilets flushed and our bodies clean. This is paramount in keeping you and your family healthy.

Save the gallon jugs and 2 liter bottles of the products you already buy.

If you don’t by products with these containers, find friends or family members to give you there’s before they throw them away.

2 liter bottles made for carbonated beverages are best because they will last longer than you’ll ever need them to.

Gallon milk jugs have a shorter lifetime and will degrade over time, leaving a surprise mess one day and potential water damage when you’re not looking.

Every few toilet uses, fill the back of the tank of your toilet with this stored tap water and flush.

OK, now that we have covered some of the basics, let’s take a look at the most simple and effective ways for Storing Water for Emergencies in 2022!

"Thousands have lived without love, not one without water"

— W.H. Auden

Complacency is the trend these days here in the developed world. We have become soft and spoon-fed. The majority never give a seconds thought of, to put it simply, where things come from.

What we mean here is, food comes from the grocery store and water comes out of the spigot. Rarely does anyone ever think about the living conditions of the meat and vegetables we consume or how our water is treated.

Do yourself and your family a major service and be proactive in your water securement. It is the most precious thing we consume and our life-blood.

Imagine the satisfaction of walking your property and observing your water systems in place and your storage tanks full of high-quality drinking water.

Imagine knowing that if “the system” fails tomorrow, or some of us get left out for one reason or another, you have months of drinking water to get you and yours through with confidence while you make a long-term plan.

Self-reliance is an important virtue in an unvirtuous society. Take matters into your own two hands a create the world you want to live in, one piece at a time.

Keep your standards high and your mettle rugged! Be well!
