The 3 Best Deep Freezers for Hunters (That You Can Buy Online!)
It’s that time of year again. Bow hunting for deer is underway in many states including mine.
While the rut hasn’t quite hit my latitude yet, the pre-rut activity has been great and is encouraging to see as we round the corner toward modern firearm.
If you’re like me, the biggest reason you hunt is to harvest wild game meat. I am a carnivore for sure and wild harvested meats taste like nothing else, and they leave me lighter, more energetic and just as full as store bought farmed meat.
In our modern world, wild harvested game represents the most pure meat you can obtain. Farmed animals tend to require immunizations and antibiotic regimens to counter the often less than great methods we’ve developed for farming them.
This gets passed along to you through them, bioaccumulation is a known issue in all beings, and the farmed animals we eat are no exception. This is why you absolutely need a deep freeze.
Having a deep freeze is beneficial for extending the life of many foods. From bread and pasta to butter and cheese, a deep freeze can change your food consumption game and help you become both more efficient and self sufficient.
Preserving a large harvest of meat is a major reason people own deep freezers. I have deer from early 2021 still in the deep freeze today, I ate a piece of tenderloin a couple of weeks ago and it tasted great!
Being able to preserve meat for multiple years is a game changer for your health and finances. Having a solid packaging system definitely helps, so getting a vacuum sealer is part and parcel to storing game meat.
The feeling of loading one hundred plus pounds of venison into the deep freezer after processing your harvest is seldom rivaled. The satisfaction and confidence boost of your self sufficiency skills makes all the work that goes into it more than worth it.
What Size Deep Freezer Should I Buy?
If you hunt a lot and harvest a lot of game meat, then I would say less than 7 cubic ft. will not meet your needs, and perhaps even 7 would be too small.
If you are harvesting meat weekly or bi-weekly then 10 cubic ft. is a must. If you harvest two to four deer a season and maybe some other small game now and then, I would recommend 7 to 9 cubic ft.
Always remember that you will likely want to store more in your deep freeze than just harvested game so consider this when zeroing in on the right freezer.
There are a few metrics people use like 1.5 cubic feet per family member, or two deer per cubic yard (3 ft) to obtain their target size. I suggest that if you plan on filling the thing up, get one in the 7 to 10 cubic ft. range.

These are strange times we’re in the midst of and there is a lot of talk and speculation on shortages. Now, we don’t mean the mainstream narrative, as you cannot trust them.
We are talking about some real estimations from some really smart folks who don’t have a political agenda. The only agenda they have is surviving and thriving and helping other people do the same by staying informed.
So, with this in mind, it is simply not enough to just have a deep freezer and think all is well.
If the grid goes down, whether local or widespread, you need to be ready to protect your assets.
What a shame it would be to spend hundreds of dollars on a new deep freezer and some food to put in it, and then spend many hours hunting, harvesting, and processing a big buck who’s life you just took, only for it all to go bad because the power went out for a few days and you weren’t ready.
Now that we have some basic questions out of the way, get ready to see a few of the best and most affordable deep freezers on the market for the avid hunter and outdoorsman, as we take a look at The 3 Best Deep Freezers for Hunters (That You Can Buy Online)!

The Best Deep Freezer for Hunters in 2022
ADT 7cu ft Chest Freezer
ADT makes some of the most affordable deep freezers on the market while still offering adequate performance. I also like that they offer freezers in the color black, which I think offers more placement options since black is more subtle than the white freezers.
This particular ADT 7cu ft Chest Freezer is a brand new model and it has been an incredibly popular item thus far. At 7 cubic feet this freezer will be perfect for the seasonal hunter and offer up space for other foodstuffs as well.
At $330 for 7 cubic feet, this is one of the best deals on the market. At under 3 feet long & tall, 2 feet wide and just 69.4 lbs, the ADT 7cu ft Chest Freezer is perfect for the young bachelor hunter who doesn’t have to store a ton of food and is perhaps working with limited living space.
The 4 removable storage baskets are an excellent accessory for separating various different game meats, and allows you to easily navigate between your different harvested proteins. The model comes in a 3.5 and 5 cubic foot model. I recommend at least 7 for the active hunter, but if you’re in the market for supplemental space those are excellent options.
FEATURES & SPECS:
35.39.2"(L) x21.77"(W) x 32.91"(H)
69.4 lbs
7 Cubic Feet
Temperature Range: -4 degrees to 6.8 degrees F
Refrigerant: R600a
Energy Consumption: 0.68Kwh/24hr
Mechanical Adjustable Thermostat
Manual Defrost
4 Removable Hanging Storage Baskets
The MOOSOO 9cu. ft. Large Capacity Chest Freezer is a great deep freeze. At 9 cubic feet, it’s big enough to hold 4 to 5 good size deer. If you elk hunt, this size or bigger is an absolute must.
You may know MOOSOO from vacuum manufacturing or cookware, but they are producing quality deep freezers as well. The 9ft Large Chest Freezer is a little over 3 and a half feet long and stands nearly 3ft high and 2 ft wide.
The MOOSOO 9cu. ft. Large Capacity Chest Freezer is a great product not just for storing your game meat, but prepping yourself for emergencies as well. If you only have 2 and a half deer portions left and a few pounds of turkey and/or duck then you will likely have quite a bit of room for other foodstuffs.
At just under 95lbs this freezer is not too bulky, allowing you a much easier time if you ever need or want to move it. The MOOSOO 9cu. ft. Large Chest Freezer offers 5 temperature settings ranging from 10.4 degrees F to -22 degrees F.
This freezer offers exceptional food storage ability and is not going to break the bank in the process. Perhaps my favorite feature is the 12 hour power outage protection, which allows for keeping food frozen through a power outage (when not frequently opening the door, of course).
FEATURES & SPECS:
43.9”L X 24.02”W X 33.3”H = 9 cubic feet
94.8lbs
Removable Storage Baskets
Adjustable Thermostat with 5 Temperature Settings, ranging from 10.4 to -22 degrees F
High Quality R600a Compressor, emitting less noise
Great Efficiency at only 0.60Kwh/24hr
The door remains open from a 45 degree angle to a 90 degree angle
Frigidaire is a household name in appliance products. They have been making top quality refrigeration systems for many years and their freezer products are equally excellent.
The Frigidaire 68” Freezer with 19.8 cu. ft. Capacity deep freezer is my favorite on this list for many reasons. The baskets are not only removable, but adjustable as well, and this bad boy gives you nearly 20 cubic feet of storage. At a little over 200lbs it is not such a terrible freezer to negotiate, especially for it’s capacity.
One of my favorite features is that the freezer has a lock with a pop out key. Burglars don’t always just look for sellable goods, sometimes food is a target as well and there is no better way to make sure you're keeping your friends from sneaking a chunk of backstrap.
The Frigidaire 68” Freezer with 19.8 cu. ft. Capacity is perfect for big game hunters. You can fit quite a few deer in a freezer with nearly 20 cubic feet, I would say a couple full size elk cuts would stack in there nicely, and you’d probably even have room for your grouse or rabbit in the baskets.
If you are taking a lot of game, you are likely eating a lot of game, and you’ll need a dependable storage system with a reliable name and high quality manufacturing.
Like most freezers on the market, the Frigidaire 68” Freezer with 19.8 cu. ft. Capacity offers the adjustable thermostat and a temperature range of 10 degrees to -10 degrees F.
If you hunt your land daily or you expedition hunt this freezer is entirely necessary, and even if you harvest less than 3 or 4 deer sized animals a season, but you have a garden or enjoy preserving your goods for prep stores; this freezer is a must for you.
FEATURES & SPECS:
Annual Energy Usage: 296 Kwh
Power light on interior
73 11/16 in. X 31 3/4 in. X 29 9/16 in.
19.8 cubic feet of storage
Removable Baskets
Lock with Pop Out Key
Manual Defrost
CSA Certified
"A peculiar virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his acts, they are dictated by his own conscience, rather than by a mob of onlookers. It is difficult to exaggerate the importance of this fact."
— Aldo Leopold
Don’t make the mistake of underestimating your quarry. If you’ve not had a monster mature buck on your hunting grounds in the last few years, don’t take that as a signal they’re not around your land.
Just this morning I was checking the mineral plots on the property and saw the largest buck track I’ve seen, longer than my open hand. I believe this is a buck I’ve been seeing and he is at least a 12 eastern scorable. This would be the largest deer harvested off this parcel in a few years.
So have the space you need, or you’ll be giving more venison away than you’d like. The more freezer space you have the more long term food storage you have, which is great for preparation and peace of mind.
I hope this list gave you better insight into what size and type of deep freezer is right for your needs. My personal favorite is the Frigidaire 68” Freezer with 19.8 cu. ft. Capacity because of the immense capacity and the classic Frigidaire name.
Good luck out there this fall, may your hands stay steady and your freezers stay full! And, may you remain Rugged!
