The Best Hunting Backpack for Packing Out Meat in 2022
Backcountry and big game hunting can be exhausting to say the least.
Most of us who choose to make this a part of our lifestyle accept this as a right of passage.
We prepare for it in the off season, just like we prepare for everyday life, training mind and body.
Strength training and conditioning play an integral role in our ability to optimize our hunts and bring home as much meat for the freezer as we’re allowed. Sometimes there are many mountains to climb and valleys to traverse to even get to where we’re going to set up base camp.
Backcountry big game hunters are also usually the type to not half-ass much of anything. They strive for excellence in most things they do. The kind of drive this style of hunting requires separates the men from the boys.
This unwillingness to settle for less also accounts for the type of gear they choose to carry because they know that well-made, high-quality gear will probably not fail them in the field.
There’s little sense in putting so much hard work and training into getting ready for a season, just to have your chances for success hindered by poorly designed and faulty gear. This would certainly apply to the backpack we choose to employ on a big game hunt.
Things to Consider When Deciding on the Best Hunting Backpack for Hauling Out Meat
There are some things to consider when a hunter is looking for the right backpack, and one of the most important considerations is the ability to haul out precious meat from an animal that gave its life for you and your family, for you to be able to eat the most healthy meat on the planet.
Check out THE 3 BEST DEEP FREEZERS FOR HUNTERS (THAT YOU CAN BUY ONLINE!) to see some long term storage options for preserving that precious meat!
BE NIMBLE, BE QUICK!
We’re looking for speed and efficiency when we have the time-sensitive task of bringing meat from wilderness to table, as preservation is of utmost importance. In order to do this, we must consider a few things about the backpack we choose to help us bear this load.
In order to optimize our performance in the field, we’re looking for a pack that has a very sturdy, yet lightweight, frame, capable of hauling as much weight as you think you’re willing to carry as far as you think you’re willing to go.
HOW MUCH REAL ESTATE DO YOU NEED?
The ideal hunting backpack for packing out meat should also have enough space to carry everything YOU need to get the job done safely and efficiently.
This includes water, shelter, fire, and food, if you’re going to be out overnight or longer.
You must account for your weapon(s) of choice, the tools you’ll need to field dress or at least quarter, extra clothing, binoculars, cordage, and so on. All of the stuff YOU need.
Your list is specific to you and you only, and before you go spending a pretty penny on a backpack, you probably want to make sure it can do what you want/need it to do.
You should buy a pack based on your predetermined needs and preferences and not base your decision on what you can take because of the limitations you’ve imposed on yourself by not buying the right pack.
“SHHH, BE VEWY VEWY QUIET…” — Elmer Fudd
Another thing to consider is choosing a pack that is made of a solid fabric and material that is ultra QUIET when you’re on a hunt.
Wildlife is very perceptive when it comes to their instincts for survival, so the second they smell or hear something that doesn’t add up, there gone, lickity split! Be stealthy!
LOAD SECUREMENT AND ERGONOMICS, FITTING TOPICS
Last, but absolutely one of the most important considerations, make sure your pack fits you properly.
Hunting backpacks can come in various sizes and may have adjustable torso lengths, so make sure you’re pack is fitted to your body properly before you head out into the field.
This is a BIG DEAL! If you’re pack doesn’t fit tight to your body, you will not perform optimally. This will wear you down quickly and you won’t be able to handle as heavy of a load as safely as you should.
Test your load by taking your loaded pack somewhere and walking with it a couple of miles. Then, make the necessary adjustments until you feel confident you’ve optimized the fit. Do some research if you have to, to get details on weight distribution and how to pack and haul a heavy backpack.
Alright, now if you have an idea of what you plan to haul in and what you’re willing to haul out, let’s get to the meat of this article and hunt down The Best Hunting Backpack for Packing Out Meat in 2022!

My quest for ultralight backpacking gear began 15 years ago and has been a slow and organic process of development, testing, and refining. The goal has been straightforward: build the lightest, most durable gear using only the toughest technical materials available.
After hundreds of miles of testing on the trail, years of research and design, this goal has been accomplished.”
